한 나라의 경제발전 척도는 전국토를 연결하는 철도와 고속도로와 같은 교통망이 어느 정도 구축되어 있는 가에 달려 있다고 볼 수 있습니다. 경부고속도로의 구축과 함께 우리나라의 경제는 지속적으로 발전해 왔고, 지금은 동서남북으로 그물망처럼 엮어진 교통망 덕분에 전국토가 일일 생활권이 되고 있으며 유라시아 대륙을 횡단하는 교통물류의 시대가 도래하고 있습니다.

 

 길이 있는 곳에 사람이 모이고 사람이 모이는 곳에서 도시가 형성됩니다. 도시와 도시를 연결하는 교통의 시작점과 종점에는 많은 사람들이 왕래하고, 교감하는 공간이 필요합니다. 그래서 교통건축은 새로운 문화와의 교감과 많은 사람들이 함께 공유하는 대규모 공간의 창출 그리고 새로운 기술이 함께 고려되어야 하는 전문화된 종합기술이 요구됩니다.

 

 교통건축 연구소는 대한민국의 교통분야 특성화 대학인 한국교통대학교에서 교통건축물의 설계와 시공 및 유지관리와 관련된 연구를 진행하고, 또한 전문화된 교통건축에 대한 교육을 하기 위하여 설립되었습니다. 한국철도건축기술협회를 비롯한 국내의 교통건축관련 유관기관과의 협력을 통한 교통건축 기술의 발전과 산업체의 수요에 따른 연구개발, 그리고 국내외 대학 및 기관과의 교류를 통하여 전문인력을 양성하고자 합니다. 특히 대한민국의 새로운 미래를 여는 유라시아 교통네트워크시대의 도래와 함께 관련 기술의 개발 및 인력양성을 위한 기지가 될 수 있도록 하고자 합니다.

 

 A country’s economic development measure can be seen in its transportation network such as railway network and highway system of the entire country. Through the construction of Seoul-Pusan Expressway, our country was able to develop consistently. Currently, the transportation network that covers nation-wide made the entire country one-day living and the era of transportation logistics that transverses Eurasian continent has arrived.

 

Where there are ways, people gather and where people gather cities are formed. Many people come and go at starting and end point of the roads and they need space to commune. So, transportation architecture requires specialized, comprehensive technology that new technology is considered in large spaces where new cultures meet and people share.

 

Institute of Transportation Architecture (ITA) is established for the design and research of the construction and maintenance of transportation buildings as well as for the education of transportation architecture, located in Korea National University of Transportation, a specialized Korean university in the transportation field. Through the cooperation with Korea Railway Architecture Technology Association and lots of transportation architectural organizations, ITA conducts research and development of transportation architecture skill, technology according to industry’s demand. And through cooperation with domestic and international universities and organizations, ITA trains experts in the field. Especially, ITA aims to become a center for training expertise and development of technology related to the Eurasia transportation network era, which holds new possibilities for Korea.
